SWGC Support Police Campaign
9/28/2011
On 2 September, 2011, the College launched the SUPPORT POLICE AGAINST CRIME CAMPAIGN at its George Tabor Campus, led by the students enrolled for the Safety In Society course.
The students doing this three-year course are being trained to become Police Officers, so apart from the fact that this campaign is intended to be a community campaign, it also has a direct bearing on these students, hence their leadership of the campaign.
The campaign has two main purposes: one is to mobilize the student body, the community and everyone to be positive about police and support their efforts in the protection of society; two, (also important), to put the Safety in Society course, at George Tabor Campus on the map.
The launch was addressed by speakers, including Major General Nkanyiso Maphanga, who was accompanied by fellow local police top brass, including Brigadier Joseph Seabo. Duxita Mistry, who is the Chief Director of Community Safety was also a speaker at the event. Mr. Dan Nkosi, College Principal/ CEO, addressed the launch and called upon all community members to rise and be counted among those who abhor crime.
The formal programme was followed by the signing of a Support Police Pledge, then a march, demonstrating support for the police, from George Tabor to Moroka Police Station, where a pledge of support to the police was presented and handed over.
